Friends of CASA Luncheon Raises over $224,000 to Support Local Children and Youth in Foster Care and Juvenile Justice.

On Thursday, May 7, more than 175 supporters gathered at Tehama for the Friends of CASA Luncheon, for an inspiring event dedicated to advancing advocacy for children and youth in foster care and the juvenile justice system in Monterey County.

Thanks to the generosity of our community, we raised an incredible $224,337 to support CASA of Monterey County’s work. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, local officials, and all who attended for making this impact possible.

Guests were welcomed by CASA Board Chair and former CASA volunteer Juliet Del Rosario, whose remarks highlighted the power of consistent, caring advocacy. Executive Director Gilda Gonzales shared reflections on the first three months of her tenure, and the urgent need to continue supporting CASA’s work as state and federal funding sources become less reliable. The program also featured remarks from former Dependency Court Judge Marla Anderson, who spoke to the critical role CASA volunteers play in the court system. The event was expertly emceed by CASA Board Member Dina Ruiz, who guided the afternoon with warmth and purpose.

The highlight of the program was a powerful panel featuring CASA volunteers Paula Arnold, Tony Finnegan, and Jessica Maciel, alongside Denise, a former youth supported by her CASA, Paula. Together, they shared stories that brought to life the lasting impact a CASA can have, not only in navigating complex systems, but in building trust, stability, and hope.

With beautiful weather and a strong sense of community, the luncheon was both a celebration and a call to action. At a time when CASA is facing increased demand and funding challenges, the support shown at this event ensures that more children and youth will have a dedicated advocate by their side.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this day so meaningful. Your partnership helps ensure that every child and young person we serve has the opportunity to thrive.
