Youth in the juvenile justice system and those dealing with truancy often face similar challenges to youth in the foster care system. So, how can a CASA volunteer make a difference in the life of a child navigating the Juvenile Justice system? CASAs can offer support, advocacy, and consistency to these youth, just as they do for foster youth. 

Navigating the juvenile justice system can be a daunting task for any vulnerable child or adolescent. With the guidance and encouragement from a dedicated CASA volunteer, youth involved in the system and truancy can acquire the skills to improve their self-efficacy, enhance their school attendance, and fulfill the conditions of their probation. It’s also important to understand that foster youth may become involved in the juvenile justice system. When this occurs, their CASA must comprehend the juvenile court process to provide the best support possible. 

Recently, CASA of Monterey has established a strong partnership with the Monterey County Juvenile Probation Department to support CASA volunteers and the youth they serve. Our main goal is to ensure the safety of the children in our communities and prepare them for success!
