Become a CASA

We provide comprehensive volunteer training and staff support needed for you to succeed. The one-hour information session is held online through Zoom and is the first step in learning about the process.

An in-person or virtual interview with CASA staff members is scheduled after the application is received. This is another great opportunity to ask questions and share any personal concerns you may have. Acceptance into the CASA volunteer program is contingent on passing criminal and CPS background checks. A copy of your driver’s license, social security card, and current auto insurance declaration page is required at this time. A CASA member will provide you with the necessary documents to fill out and return.

Training is done over a period of five weeks, with classes held twice a week. You are responsible for attending all training classes. If you must miss a class due to illness or an emergency, makeup classes must be scheduled in advance with our staff.

After a minimum of 35 hours of training, you will be sworn in by the dependency court judge and matched with a child or youth placed in foster care or the juvenile justice system. You will be given access to the child’s case information, including contacts like teachers, social workers, caregivers, and attorneys.
